William and his wife migrated to Sumner Co. TN in the winter of 1796 and settled on a farm near Fort Hamilton, now called Tyree Springs, West of Portland TN. In 1804 and 1805 he worked as an overseer of the Kentucky Road from Drakes Creek. While living in Sumner County William bought a total of 105 acres. He sold this land in 1819 and moved to the Fountain Head Community where he purchased 150 acres. He was listed here in the tax rolls in 1823

State of Tennessee Sumner County July 31st 1829
I William Dorris beaing in alow state of helth and in my write mind and sencesses and beaing well aware of the many diseases of life and the shortness of life and the cententy of death First of all I commend my self and my family to almighty God, Amen,--
Second of all I will all of my personal estate to my loving wife Katharine Dorris, to, viz, my land with all its appertinances belonging there unto and all of the rest of my property and estate to have as hers to dispose of as she may think proper and to live on during her natural lifetime and after her death it is my will that what property is left then to be equally deivded among all of my lawful heirs or sold at the price equal devided among all my lawful heirs, this being my last will and testiment in consideration of where of I set my hand and seal this the day and date above written.
