Samuel and his brother William ran freight for their father and would often stop for the night at a small community known as Mt. Pleasant in Alleghany County Maryland at a small inn ran by Meshack Frost. Meshacks sisters, Abigail and Catherine Frost are who Samuel and William eventually married. Samuel moved his family to Sumner County Tennessee in 1797 and was listed there in the tax rolls in 1799. The 1810 tax rolls recordred that Samuel was living on a 108 acre tract of land that he was probably leasing from George Pirtle. In 1807 Samuel was listed as the executor of the estate of John Wyle. Samuel's will was proved March 24, 1837.`
Samuel married Abigail Frost, daughter of Josiah Frost and Elizabeth Parsell, about 1790 in Alleghany County, Maryland. (Abigail Frost was born between 1770 and 1775 in Alleghany County, Maryland and died in Oct 1841 in Tennessee.)
