John lived in Hunterdon Co. NJ until 1784 about the time that his first wife had died and went to Dorchester Co. MD where he met and married his second wife Angel. Shortly after this marriage he moved to Orange Co. NC where he purchased 204 acres on Quaker Creek from Henry Murray for 100 pounds on February 1, 1789. In 1790 he purchased another 100 acres from his parents. Was listed as the son of William orris in the 1791 tax rolls of Orange County North Carolina. On Nov 13, 1795 John sold his 204 acres to his brother William for 100 pounds and moved to Sumner Co. TN and by 1803 he was living in Smith Co. TN. In 1817 he sold his Smith Co. land and moved back to Sumner Co. TN and bought land from his brother Robert, remaining there for a short time before moving to Marion Co. Illinois in the 1820's where he remained for the rest of his life.
John married Nancy in 1775 in Hunterdon County, New Jersey. (Nancy was born about 1753 and died in 1784 in Orange County, North Carolina.)
John next married Angel Mace in 1787 in Dorchester, Maryland. (Angel Mace died in 1817 in Sumner County, Tennessee.)
