He was the son of Joseph Crews and Agnes ?. He married Mary Elder June 18, 1792 in Campbell Co, VA. Mary Elder, born
1772 in Campbell Co, VA; died Bef. 1828 in Henderson Co, KY. She was the daughter of Joseph Elder and Mary Matthews.

Joseph Crews died in 1800 leaving Polly with 4 small children. Her second marriage to William Crowley produced 7 more
children. Georgia land lottery of 1806 allowed "all widows having a legitimate child or children under the age of 21 years, who
have resided 12 months in this State, immediately preceeding the passage of this act, shall be entitled to two draws." Thus Wm.
Crowley, husband of Joseph Crews' widow, appeared as #69 in the Oglethorpe County list of eligible drawers, claiming 1
draw for the four orphans of Joseph Crews, deceased. Source: Oglethorpe Misc. Records 158,725, list of eligible drawers
lottery of 1806.

A Joseph Crews is named in Joseph Crews will of 1798 in Amherst County, VA. Death date based on codicil of father's will of
1801 which says "reason to believe son Joseph is dead, his share to my daughter Nancy Franklin" Joseph Crews Jr is listed in
the Amherst Co VA Tax List, Lexington Parish with one white male over 16, one horse owned. Joseph Crews Jr. served in
Revolutionary War and received pension. Proof of the war activity of Joseph Crews Jr. may be found in his pension file,
#W221.

However, 18 Sep 1995 from Donna Hunter: Amherst deed dated 15 Jan 1829 which disputes information that Joseph Crews
Jr ever married. "Elizabeth Powell, relict of Richard and Nancy Franklin, widow of James Franklin, (1) Ebenezer Gardner (2)
Sarah Crews, wife of Thomas...8 Oct 1810, our late husbands sold to Thomas Crews 1/4 of 2 undivided tracts of Joseph
Crews the younger, dec'd. Wives of grantors are sisters as is Sally Crews of Joseph the younger who died single and intestate."
