"One possible connection between the North Carolina Troutmans and the Kentucky family Troutmans is the Beard family connection. In both Frederick County, Maryland, and Rowan County, North Carolina, there was a Beard family. How these families were related is unknown, but in both cases the name was originally German Barth and was Anglicized to Beard. John Lewis Beard (Johan Ludwid Barth) sold land to Peter Troutman (1716) in Rowan County, North Carolina in 1786. John Michael Troutman (1738) married Rebecca Beard, daughter of John Beard, in Frederick County, Maryland about 1762. A Peter Barth was naturalized along with Leonard Troutman (c1710) in Maryland in 1761."

Troutman Families Of Kentucky

Rebecca Beard, Michael's first wife, was the daughter of John Beard of Frederick County. She and Michael were married in 1762. Their oldest child, John, pays loving tribute to Rebecca in a packet of extraordinary letters written from 1812 to 1815 from Milledgeville, Georgia, to his brother Leonard in Nelson County, Kentucky. John wrote a short time after his father's death in Bullitt County, "I well remember the industry of our dear mother, whom it was the will of the Almighty to call from us when we were all young to struggle in this hard world... and I hope is now with the angels in Heaven." In March, 1815, he wrote that his daughter Joanna Lamar had named her first child Rebecca "after our dear mother." Rebecca Beard Troutman's death is reckoned in 1782. She and Michael were sponsors at a child's baptism in the Middletown Lutheran Church July 1, 1781, and her name is omitted for the first time in Michael's deeds of conveyance when he sold a portion of Old Orchard, in October, 1782.
