James began life as a wagon maker (1850 census) and farmer. Since the railroad was built, he devoted his full time to his farm. He owned over 525 acres of land and his home was within 1/8 mile of Grayson Springs Station (now Clarkson). In politics he was a Republican. Date of death might be 10 Feb 1896.
