Peter (Sr.) and Martha (Goldson) Joy had land "Joy's Fortune" (200 Acres) by Sept 20, 1658 and there is also record indicating that they owned Kingston (225 acres) in Prince George County, MD by Sept 22, 1658.
Listed service 1663 to John Billingsly for 11 years. Therfore entry date should be around 1652. However, Dorothy Exley, author of "The Joy Family" places Peter's arrival in St. Mary's County as 1663.
In "Maryland Genealogy" Jerry Clark states : "PETER JOY(1), a Catholic was born in 1628 according to a deposition he gave in 1654 (ARCHIVES OF MARYLAND X:405, 410). He was transported into the Province of Maryland from Virginia around 1652 by John Billingsby (Patents 5:418). Major John Billingsby was a Virginia merchant who obtained his Maryland land in 1652 (Patents ABH: 213). PETER JOY is probably the son of RICHARD JOY(JOYE) and MARY DOVE, born in 1628 in All Saint's Church in Kingston-Upon- the Thames, Surry, England (church records). A PETER JOY(spelled JOICE) was transported to Northfolk County, Virginia on 4/28/1652 by GEORGE KEMP, and then apparently indentured to JOHN BILLINGSBY(CAVILIERS AND PIONEERS 1: 239. In Maryland on 1/24/1662/1663 PETER JOY demanded 50 acres for his service(carpenter), so his term of indentured servitude to MAJOR JOHN BILLINGSBY was about 10 years (Patent 5: 418)."

Peter (Sr.)'s age givenj as 26 in 1654 MD Court & Test. page 410-411.
A Martha (Goldson) Joy is named as the administrator of the inventory and accounts of husband Peter (Sr.) Joy. August 4, 1686 (Peregative Court) John Miles also named in this document. .
Only Peter (Sr.) and Susanna Joy were found in the Fische Church (Kingston, England) records as children of Richard and Mary (Dover) Joy. The possibility exists that they were on the first boat to Maryland. However early birth records were not in existance for Maryland.

Peter (Sr) Joy: Occupation was Attorney and Carpenter. The Provincialk Court Proceedings in the 1650s seem to indicate that Peter was a familiar figure in the Court. We found several proceedings in he was a witness, juror, defendant, and carrier of litigation to the bench.

PETER JOY married MARTHA GOLSON, the daughter of DANIEL GOLSON prior to 1663. DANIEL GOLSON immigrated to Maryland in 1650 and settled on the Patuxent River. He brought with him his wife SARAH GOLSON, and a son MATHEW GOLSON(Patents ABH: 322). According to THE ARCHIVES OF MARYLAND PETER JOY tried to obtain what was due to his wife and her brother " The young DANIEL GOLSON" In the Provincial Court Proceedings of 1663. The record states that DANIEL GOLSON "was father to PETER's Wife, and that when Daniel GOLSEON died he left a considerable estate in the hands of "DOROTHY his Wife"

DOROTHY ______GOLSON was the second wife of DANIEL GOLSON. As a widow DOROTHY married secondly GILES SADLER, an Attorney in Calvert County. According to patents DOROTHY SADLER widow of GILES SADLER married HUGH STANLEY, Gentleman, prior to 1663. HUGH STANLEY, the third husband of DOROTHY, died by 11/13/1669 when his will was probated (1:353) (5:409). HUGH STANLEY did not mention any step- children when he wrote his will a couple of years prior. He did mention that his wife may have been with child.

MARTHA JOY administered the estate of PETER JOY of Calvert County on 8/10/1686, which amount to 1,989 pounds of tobacco. They were verily eking out an existence when PETER JOY died, so he probably never acquired his wife's inheritance( acc't 9: 134). PETER JOY and MARTHA GOLSON appear to have had five children.considerable estate in the hands of "DOROTHY his Wife"
