Sea Captain - buried in Beaverdam Cemetery. Ran away from home (Belfast) at age 15 to go to sea. Entered a school of navigation in New York at age 21. Married in Bullitt County, KY (Shepherdsville) March 30, 1809. 1810 Slave Owner List from Bullitt County says John Patterson owned 4 slaves. Moved to Grayson County, KY April 9, 1814. He and wife owned 1,472 acres in Grayson County.

LDS says he was born in Ballinderry, Antrim, Ireland.

Perrin book says he was born about 1781.

Date of death might be 4 Feb 1861.
