Killed by a train on his way to Texas. Was 41 yrs old when he died of an injury recieved at Alston, SC two hours before when he was caught between the platform and a railroad car. He had sold all his worldly goods and had intended to move to Texas to better his condition and to settle his children around him in his distant home. Charles was described as frugal, industrious and a good citizen.- Southern Christian Advocate Obituary, 21 Jan. 1870
