James married Mary Ann (Sarah) Powell, daughter of William Powell and Sophia Black, on 28 May 1839 in Spencer County, Indiana. (Mary Ann (Sarah) Powell was born on 28 Jan 1822 in Indiana, USA, died on 7 Aug 1887 and was buried in Little Pigeon Cemetery, Chrisney, Lincoln State Park, Spencer County, Indiana.)
